Our Turkeys
Our mission at St Margarets Turkeys is to provide a high quality, free range and tasty Turkey for your Christmas dinner. Christmas happens only once a year, we believe it is important the centre piece of such a special meal is delicious and of a quality that our regular customers have come to expect.
Our turkeys arrive at St Margarets at 3-4 weeks of age in early August. They are reared in a warm, cosy barn with plenty of fresh straw, which is produced on the farm. They are fed a high quality, nutritious diet which includes grains and leafy greens.
Once our birds have settled into their new environment and have grown a fuller plumage, they are released to their grassy enclosure during the day. Here they are able to graze through the grass and better exercise their natural instinct. At night our birds are housed in the barn with perches for them to roost.
Welfare of our Turkeys is of the utmost importance to us. All our Turkeys are processed on farm, unlike most of those which are for sale in the supermarkets, are hand plucked. This gives a superior finish to the turkey. Our birds are then hung for 7-10 days in a chilled environment which allows the meat to develop a fuller flavour.
Once prepared, our turkeys are placed in carry handled boxes, ready for collection by our customers.
